Exploring shape - Reaping the benefits of wools natural properties - perfecting fit to minimize waste
Sketching, cutting, felting, folding, trimming, testing, repeat...
The illustration to the left is the blueprint to laser cutting and engraving. Created to be easily scalable in both size and number.
With every piece fitting as perfect as possible to the last, like a puzzle! This was done without compromising the ability of each case to be easily folded together and simultaneously enabling the structure to be strong enough to not unfold.
In this process I learned to embrace functionality in the design while ensuring very low environmental impact - without compromising aesthetics.
After lasercutting Wooly is ready to meet it´s end consumer. Whose job it is to fold it togheter. This ensures the environmental impact of manufacturing and shipping is kept to a minimum since it can be shipped in flat sheets. Letting the user fold it together also provide them with insight of it´s innovative construction, creating a connection and understanding of the product. Which in turn creates more value so that the product recieve longer life. When the user is finished using the case, they hopefully know what to do with it! It says pretty clearly on the back(:
